About
My name is Alice Britton and I’ve been a footwear designer since 2013 and currently based in California.
Before footwear, I was a Short Track Speedskater for 10 years and dedicated to sport. My interest in design started in college while I was attending Otis College of Art and Design where I was exposed to footwear design for a soft goods class. My world of sport and design collided and I connected to the articulate expression of the craft from that point on.
As for my creative aspirations, I have to give credit to my parents who are both creatives themselves. Watching my mother design, and make clothes and my father as a woodworker. There was always something new to play with.
The combination of the two drives me to explore how design can play a role in society. I’m available on email, phone, or LinkedIn if you’re interested in a chat. :)
Below is a short summary/resume of my past experiences:
Footwear Designer at UGG Women’s
I was involved in being a part of creating the seasonal stories from the design teams perspective. Implementing brand DNA in innovatively and creating a design language through out product by harnessing the functionality of our brand and combining it with the Fashion characteristics to create UGG’s point of view through a California lens.
Furniture Designer at Multiplymade Studio
In my time at Multiplymade, my husband and I designed and made home goods and furniture designs that was modern and functional for your everyday needs. We wanted more than just a sculptural piece that looked beautiful. We wanted to be able to use it as well as be something beautiful to look at every day.
Footwear Designer at Deuce Sneakers/ Mi Piaci (Merchant 1948)
I worked and lived in New Zealand for a couple years as a footwear designer for a company called Merchant 1948, focusing on their sneaker brand; Deuce. I designed vulcanized sneakers for both men and women. Also designing sneakers for their fashion brand Mi Piaci.
Associate Footwear Designer at Avia and Ryka
At Brown Shoe Company, I got the opportunity to design for three brands; Avia, Ryka and Nevados. Avia was an athletic footwear brand, focusing on performance running. Ryka was a women’s only brand that was focused on training shoes for the gym and casual athletics. Nevados was an outdoor brand for both men and women. I was fortunate to work with all three brands and learn about designing function into shoes, combined with aesthetics and for the end-use consumer.
